AI USE CASE TRENDS IN BANKING | Q4 2025

ACCELERATION IN GENERATIVE AND AGENTIC AI

While new AI deployment announcements cooled in Q4 2025 (49, down from 70 in Q1 2025), sophistication accelerated — GenAI and Agentic use cases now represent 70% of implementations, up from 54% a year ago. Banks are now deploying Agentic AI to automate processes such as source of wealth reporting or fraud claims.

DEVELOPER TOOLS NOW STANDARD

Engineer and Developer Augmentation use cases are fast becoming table stakes for banks, growing 8x since February 2024. Banks are equipping thousands of developers with AI agents that automate software development and maintenance and are already reporting 10-20% productivity gains, on average.

THE AI VENDOR LANDSCAPE DIVERSIFIES - FOR NOW

The vendor landscape has shifted since early 2024. OpenAI's share of public use cases declined from 35% to 27% year-on-year as Google and Anthropic narrow the gap and specialized vendors gain traction in discrete areas. However, this fragmentation may prove temporary: upcoming releases such as Claude co-work and OpenAI Frontier are expected to challenge specialized providers and could shift banks' vendor strategies in 2026.
